We are thrilled to finally see communities pulling together in support of women. In honor of International Women’s Day last week, and National Women’s History Month, we want to highlight a local company providing women an opportunity to utilize trade skills, while earning a living wage.
Southwest Creations Collaborative

Southwest Creations Collaborative‘s mission is to work against poverty and improve opportunities for education and economic growth for women. Many women know cultural trades like sewing and beading, and SCC gives these women an avenue to utilize these skills.

In addition to paying a living wage, SCC addresses the current need for working families to have affordable childcare. Despite societal norms, SCC offers in-house childcare for only $0.25 per hour. This totals $2.00 for the day, per child, as opposed to a more standard number of $20-$40 per day.
This organization helps women get a leg up in society while cultivating relationships between other local manufacturers and entrepreneurs. Submaterial had the opportunity to attend a morning coffee at SCC last Friday and met with representatives from a handful of great companies in our state.

FUSE Makerspace is a partner of CNM, giving the community tools and support they need to design, prototype, and create manufactured works. They offer monthly and weekly memberships.
A company with a focus on supporting Indigenous pop culture, Native Realities provides clothing, comics, and historical tales of Indigenous icons, freedom fighters, and more.
Founded and operated by local New Mexicans, Calindo Creative aims to help local artists, small businesses, and entrepreneurs by meeting the need for brand identity, illustration, and photography.
Both an organic farm and historic inn, Los Poblanos is rooted in Albuquerque’s North Valley. You can visit their Farm Shop to pick up jewelry, local foods, and artisan lavender. They also offer lectures, workshops, and other events throughout the year.
Helping create successful businesses through the support of entrepreneurs, Creative Startups is geared to those in the early phases of starting a company; from the idea stage, prototyping, going into the market, to networking and continually earning revenue.

The Partnership for Community Action helps create strong leadership by investing in communities and connecting them to decision-makers.
City of Albuquerque Cultural Services
Albuquerque’s own platform informs residents of cultural events and services, including concerts, parades, dancing, and more. “When everyday people and their families prosper, we all succeed.”
