This year, Submaterial is looking to increase local brand awareness. Working with world-class companies like Google, Knoll, and Gensler, it is time to connect with our local design community in our home state. We are reaching out to Albuquerque’s top design firms, excited to see how we can participate in future interior development.
To get started, we presented our products at four “lunch & learns” and hosted multiple studio visits.
LUNCH & LEARN
A lunch & learn is one way to incentivize a target audience to attend a presentation by providing excellent food. When Submaterial schedules lunch & learn sessions, our catering is through The Seasonal Palate, a small restaurant specializing in beautiful and clean foods. In addition to a delicious lunch, we make sure to have colorful product samples for attendees to interact with. To no one’s surprise, engagement is much better when we show up with lunch, which is always worth it.
LOCAL ARCHITECTURE FIRMS
We scheduled lunch & learn meetings with a few of Albuquerque’s largest architecture firms, like DEKKER/PERICH/SABATINI. Founded in 1959 and operating as Dekker/Perich/Sabatini since 1998, they have been completing large projects like the ABQ UPTOWN mall and the recent LOBO RAINFOREST AT INNOVATE ABQ. They were especially interested in a future collection of room dividers, coming this fall from Submaterial.

Hartman & Majewski Design Group
Our second lunch & learn this year was at Hartman & Majewski Design Group, where there was a deep fascination with the idea of using 100% wool felt on the walls. One architect commented that his most comfortable and durable shoes are made from 100% wool, from a company called Allbirds. Hartman & Majewski Design Group completed notable projects like the UNM Anderson School of Management’s newest building, and the Plaza Cuidana near Downtown Albuquerque. This lunch & learn cultivated a connection that could easily turn into a local product installation, and we’ll be excited to see where this partnership can go.

FBT Architects
Our most recent lunch & learn was at FBT Architects, where we gave a sneak-peek into our spring product release and discussed ways our products can help with harsh acoustics in large public spaces. A few of our favorite projects completed by FBT Architects include the Atrisco Heritage Academy High School and UNM Castetter Hall, which received a LEED Silver certification.

Studio Southwest Architects
In February, we attended the annual Jeff Harnar Award and met a Senior Architect at Studio Southwest Architects. He was excited to know a little about us and recommended his firm for a lunch & learn in April. We are excited to meet the group and introduce our wallcovering collections. Studio Southwest Architects designed the Pete V. Domenici Education Center, an addition to the National Hispanic Cultural Center earning a LEED Gold Certification.
