Local Industry: Molecule Design

In the design industry, the local market plays a key role in success, as presence encourages other designers, provides jobs in the design field, and it keeps money turning in the local economy.

Submaterial began its involvement with the local community through material donations of recycled cork and wool felt. Over the past year, we have established continued relationships with the OFFCenter Community Arts ProjectWemagination Resource CenterUNM Children’s HospitalBoys & Girls ClubYMCA, and multiple community centers and preschools. Our goal in donating felt is that it can become a creative way for children to play and express themselves. By investing in our youth, we can help encourage the future of design professionals.

In addition to local material donations, we have been collaborating with a Santa Fe furniture design store, where multiple of our panel designs are being showcased and sold. Molecule Design is a modern furniture store, owned and operated by Adriana Siso.

Molecule Design

Adriana Siso has a background in Fine Arts and established her first contemporary furniture store in 2003. In September 2010, Adriana opened Molecule Design, located in the innovative Baca Railyard District. Molecule embraces fresh ideas in contemporary industrial design in the realm of home décor.

“Molecule operates from its shipping container building in Santa Fe, NM. Therefore, sustainability is one of the ongoing explorations, offering product lines made from 100% recycled plastics, harvested woods, green foams, and recycled cottons.”

As part of Molecule’s Art Meets Design contribution, Molecule is helping support the work of local artists and designers by hosting a show featuring makers who are currently showcasing work in the store. There will be designers from various trades, including lighting, ceramics, and modern furniture. This is a group of “strong creators who work in a functional or decorative approach for residential and commercial applications,” states Siso. This event will serve as a means for designers to meet others in the local industry, and network. Contact Adriana Siso for more information on attending this inspiring and free event.

We look forward to growing our outreach and expanding our relationships with other designers and industry leaders for years to come.
