Territory Managers & Artist Collaborations

Company Upgrades

Building – As you have likely heard by now, Submaterial’s seven-suite fabrication setup is no more! We have moved into a 36,000 square foot building, bringing our full team of 41 under the same roof. We now have a dedicated showroom (in progress), a beautiful and modern kitchen that can accommodate the entire team, and building-wide refrigerated air (escaping swamp coolers!). We’ll be showing it off officially at our Open House & Brand Release Party – September 26th, 2019.

Carpool Initiative – Contrary to the expansive new location, our team is now shy on parking. To alleviate this issue and lessen environmental impact of 40+ cars coming to work every day, we have established a carpool program. Employees can now get reimbursed for miles driven to and from work if they commute in teams. We also want to continue encouraging our employees who live in the area to ride their bicycles, which will also result in mileage compensation.

Team Size – The move comes at a convenient time as our production demand surpassed the capabilities of a 30 person team. We hired on a new weekend crew and production is happening seven days per week! Over the past month and a half, we’ve also brought on 6 new full time employees, including fabricators and administrative roles. Big thanks to our clients and sales reps for this volume of product orders.

Submaterial Territory Managers & Projects

To complement the presence we already have in the market, we’ve hired our very own Territory Managers. Their role is to sell Submaterial’s custom capabilities including feature walls, custom wallcoverings, installations, and one-of-a-kind art pieces.

Our popular commercial Wallcovering designs and Acoustic Collection are still sold exclusively through our partner company, FilzFelt.

Jo List – West Coast Territory Manager – A few decades of networking in the architecture and design community lends Jo a running start in the new Territory Manager position. She’s been in the Pacific Northwest for over 20 years and lives and breathes customization with clients. When she’s not working closely with designers to develop their vision on amazing pieces, she enjoys “glamping” and spending time with her family throughout the region. Jo is excited and honored to be part of the growing and evolving creative community and looks forward to bringing Submaterial into her design network.

Jo’s most recent custom project debuted this past weekend at Explora in Albuquerque. The project is an exhibit titled “Studio Inventivo,” intended to act as a space where visitors of all ages use common materials to “highlight the intersections of science, technology, engineering, art, and math.”

Submaterial built and covered the “Story Kiosk” with purple wool felt. Our team also provided a few plywood-backed Wall Panels for the space to add a pop of color and texture. Stay tuned for a blog featuring the project inception, fabrication process, installation, and more about the exhibit.

Catherine Pelletier – East Coast Territory Manager – Specializing in natural materials and their application in interior architecture, Catherine has spent over 25 years expanding and strengthening her expertise. She believes today’s interior landscape demands flexibility in function and personal comforts across all market segments. Catherine can offer guidance in specifications related to investment-return and exudes a synergistic energy in collaborative process. Her free time is spent within a chaotic lifestyle of family, friends, and community. If she manages to make time for herself, she crafts design publications, driven by her own curiosity and intuitive cleverness.

Catherine is currently working on a residential project with Daher Interior Design involving a stand-alone fireplace wrapped with our Walnut Wall Panel design.

Artist Collaborations

Since we’re going to have our dedicated showroom and e-commerce website reboot this year, we decided to create opportunities to work with local artists. The first artist we have collaborated with for our showroom is local ceramicist Jenny, owner of Modern Folk Ware.

Jenny has over 20 years of experience in ceramics and now sells her work full-time. Modern Folk Ware ceramics are handmade and intended for everyday use. Each piece is expected to have slight imperfections and traces of the hand.

Her ceramics pair nicely with Submaterial products, and we are excited to have a few custom pieces with her in the near future. Select pieces will also be available on the Submaterial online store later this year.
